My father inspired a deep and abiding love for water very early in my life. Fishing trips, days at the lake, even riding the Staten Island Ferry all convinced me that I never wanted to be too far from the sea.
When I went to college, a scuba course was offered for credit, so I signed up. This was in 1967, and I dove happily in lakes, quarries and even St. Thomas into the 1970's. Of course, life got in the way and the fins got hung up for a few years. Well, a bit over twenty years to be exact.
Then the bug bit again, as my youngest daughter wanted to be certified for her 12th birthday. I had to get certified with her, since I could not find any of my old scuba stuff. She still reminds me that I told her we would just get the basic certification, and go diving maybe once per year....
I am now an SDI instructor, go diving at any opportunity, and try to put together as many creative trips as I can. When I'm not teaching SCUBA or leading a trip, you'll find me in the shop, helping people select the very best scuba and snorkeling gear for their needs. Opening the door to the world of water is one of the most satisfying things I can think of doing. There is such power, peace, and joy to be had in the wet world. Introducing this to everyone from the very young to the very young at heart is an honor and privilege.
